Fission & Fusion

Fission & Fusion

Overview
Fission & Fusion is a pair of half sized pedals that allow you to run your signal in parallel.
Fission splits your input signal into two outputs, each with independent buffering and amplification.
Fusion receives two input signals, mixing them with an intuitive balancing knob.

Proposed Design
The Concept
- Two half sized pedals
- Pedal A, aka “Fission”, splits an input signal into two, providing an independently controlled amount of boost to each signal
- Pedal B, aka “Fusion”, mixes two input signals into one, proving intuitive balancing and overall volume control
- Note: Some documentation may refer to “Fission & Fusion” by their former project title, “This & That”
Main Uses
- Running various effects in parallel rather than series
- Clean || Fuzz
- Distortion || Flange
- Reverb || Delay
- etc…
- Exclusively use “Fission” to create stereo output
- Connect to two different amps
- Record two different tracks/effects at the same time
- Exclusively use “Fusion” to mix two different instruments
Enclosure & Physical Designs
- Fully designed in Fusion360, to be 3D printed
- Each pedal shares the same overall dimensions for uniformity
- “Fission”: 1 input jack and 2 output jacks
- “Fusion”: 2 input jacks and 1 output jack
Signal Routing & Bypass
- When engaged: Input(s) → Circuit → output(s)
- ~500 kΩ input impedance
- ~175 Ω output impedance
- When bypassed: Input → Output (True bypass)
- LED indicators disconnect when bypassed
Power Supply
- Source: 9 VDC (standard guitar pedal supply)
Circuits
- Each pedal uses different LED configurations to visually differentiate from one another
- “Fusion” utilizes a dual-gang potentiometer as apart of it’s mixer design
- Each pedal amplifies their input(s) by ~5x
- Each pedal maintains proper phase alignment
- All in/outputs are buffered for maximum signal quality/preservation
PCB Designs
- PCBs are mounted to their respective pedal’s roof using 2 potentiometers
- All components used are THT
- In/output jacks as well as DC jacks connect via quick connects
3D Printing
- 3mf file provided
- Layer height: 0.16 mm
- Infill: 20%
- Walls/Ceilings/Floors: 3
- Supports: Snug supports enabled
- Fuzzy skin (optional): Enabled on outer walls of both body and bottom
